| Review | Still regarded as "...The most accomplished and adventurous debut album the British folk scene has witnessed in more than 20 years..", Heat Light and Sound was the album that launched Eliza's career. Backed up by a couple of tours (one of which was supporting the Oysterband), the five piece of Liza, Saul, Barn, Olly and Sam went down a storm with the audiences. The album has a mixture of original and arranged traditional material, with a few new tunes (Stamps for the Dog), and songs (Peggy) signifying the development of Elizas writing skills. From the haunting melody of 'By Then', to the storming version of Jacky Tar (with Olly providing the screaming Wah solo at the end ... which 'Liza likes, and Sam thinks is funny), to the simply wonderful rendition of Ten Thousand Miles, it truly is a landmark album. There are a couple of quotes that are generally banded about everywhere for this album, and I see no reason not to include them here, so here you are :
'A superbly assured debut album.' - The Observer 'The future of British folk music.' - Mojo | |
