| Review | Red & Rice were originally released as a box set back in 1998, and not long after that the 2 CD's were released seperatly. 'Red' is the first of these, and features the 'Eliza Carthy Band' in fine form, playing the more 'modern & contemporary' music. In more ways than one. You thought that Drum-n-Bass didn't go with traditional English Folk music? Think again ...
The album covers a wide range of musical styles, from the traditional 'Time in the Son', to Liza's rendition of Lal Watersons 'Stumbling On', to stomping tunes with 'Stingo'. The last two tunes are a bit of a leap of faith - Russia (Call Waiting) and Red Rice both feature a lot of sampling and programming (care of Shack, Paul, Niall & Martin). The album features both traditional & original songs & tunes, with works of Nancy Kerr & Ben Harper appearing too. An absolutly supurb offering! | |
