| Review | Anglicana is the Eliza Carthy Band's next release after Angels & Cigarrettes, featuring tunes & songs that are traditional, with one exception - Dr Mcmbe that Liza wrote for her Dad on his 60th Birthday. (A play on words after Martin was awarded a MBE by the Queen and got awarded an honary Doctorate of Music)
The album is a distinct change from Angels, with a lot less of the 'pop' aspect to it. It comes across as an ace album - with many gems - the first and final tracks being the real corkers. People who've caught either the latest ECB tour or the 'Angels' tour should recognise the final track (Willow Tree) - and according to the track listings, Liza got it from Barn's mum (amongst other sources). The album was released in mid Autumn in the UK, and early December in the USA. The Album also was nominated for a number of different awards, including : Radio 3 World Music Awards / FRoots Critics' Poll:
In the Tradition Awards
Here's hoping that Liza takes the UK (and World!) by storm ... keep checking the websites, or stay tuned to Andy Kershaws (Radio3) and Mike Hardings (Radio2) shows to stay abreast of the judging. A cool album - go get it!
