| Biography |
Daughter of Norma Waterson and Martin Carthy, Eliza has been born into & raised in the world of folk music. Although the family has stressed in a number of interviews that Eliza wasn't raised to be a 'folk prodigy', something seemed to rub off as she's English folk music incarnate!
Incredibly talented on the fiddle & with a very emotive voice, 'Liza has toyed with other musical styles to make folk music a more accesible medium for the general public. Although it must be stressed that her roots are still where they've always been, and as well as more 'contemporary music', she is heavily involved in a number of traditional projects (including Blue Murder, the UK folk-supergroup!).
Drun-n-bass crossed with the Leicestershire Pipes, and a haunting, soulful vocal line (with bits of farm machinary being belted by hammers) ... 'Liza's arrangements and talents are extrodinary. She's toured most of the continents, has been involved in over a dozen Cd releases, spent a couple of years in the hands of Warner Brothers, and is never far from the tour circuit.
TV stardom is beckoning after appearances with Mark Radcliffe, presenting the Cambridge Folk Festival coverage in 2002 for BBC4. The sky's the limit! |
