Much has been written on the implications of Brexit. But the question remains, what will it mean for the independent music industry in the UK? It is no secret that Brexit is bad news for the independent music scene, but how bad are we actually talking? It will be more difficult for musicians across Europe to visit one another and co-operate in a creative fashion. Furthermore, the independent music industry in the UK might end up loosing foreign investments that helps boost the industry at large. A potential outcome might be that independent music labels go bankrupt and that recording studios have to close shop. It is no doubt that the independent music scene in the UK is reliant upon international collaborations, both with Europe and the World. Brexit will make this much more difficult. Hopefully, Brexit won’t hit the independent music scene as hard as many people both fear and forecast, but in the end – only the future will tell!
